As I go through the different image consulting ideals, I have found that there are different parts of putting together an outfit and fashion style that I have definitely missed in the past. It’s so easy to just put something together that “fits” instead of something that styles. There is a difference between these two.
This week, I decided that my new goal would be to find the color that brings out the different parts of my appearance. I have definitely found through some old photos and different pieces of clothing that I will definitely no longer wear, that I tend to find the wrong color. Most of the colors that I used to get were browns, grays and greens. Lighter was better, but definitely dull and boring. I think it was a way for me to sink into the background without getting noticed.
This last week I went through the aisles of a store and took one solid color of each type of blouse to try on. As I tried on the different shirts, I noticed which ones brought out my facial features, made me look better and helped to tone my skin in a pleasing way. Instead of being ‘white washed’ from the color or getting an appearance that was ‘hidden,’ I really tried to find the colors that helped to define who I was instead.
The conclusion is - I will never wear gray or brown again. With my skin tone, it brings out the worst in my skin tone and makes me look old. There is definitely not a great appearance in how these work.
I found that my best color is a deep purple. It makes my eyes look bigger, forms the shape of my face and brings out the best in me. It compliments me instead of making me look whiter. It’s like the color is a support system for my best features instead of my worst.
In my desire to take the color of things as the best from the Become Stylish program, I decided to get only one shirt to see if there was a difference. When I wore this one shirt to work, everyone thought I had a hair cut, did something differently and were complimenting that I looked different today.
From just one color, it is simple to bring out the best in your self - confidence, from the outside in. Of course, it helps that I feel better about my appearance and myself in general, but this has definitely added onto the ability to keep my looks at their best.
I now am challenging everyone to find the color that belongs to them.
Until next time,
Barrett
